Jordi Savall's Musical History of Venice

On Feb. 3, Jordi Savall and his international band of ancient instrument performers took WQXR listeners through a musical history of Venice live from Carnegie Hall. Above is the archive of that broadcast.

For 1,000 years, Venice was a world capital of trade and culture. Savall traces the melodies from across the Mediterranean to Persia, the Ottoman empire; and from Rome to France to 11th century Greece — all through music that moved through Venice. View the Carnegie Hall playbill for complete map of the historical arc of this performance.
